The Minnesota Attorney General’s Antitrust Division supports healthy competition and fair markets by enforcing state and federal antitrust laws. These laws prohibit conduct that interferes with healthy business competition. Our antitrust attorneys investigate potential violations and stop anticompetitive activity by obtaining agreements with violators or by suing violators. In some antitrust lawsuits, the Attorney General may also seek compensation for consumers and the state.
Antitrust violations fall into three broad categories:

              - Agreements Not to Compete:
Companies that would normally compete with each other agreeing to limit that competition. This includes agreements to raise prices, to reduce supply, to stay out of each other’s territories, or to tamper with a bidding process. This also includes competing employers agreeing to keep employee wages down or to stop trying to hire employees from each other.

- Anticompetitive Mergers or Acquisitions:
A merger between companies that previously competed with each other or a merger that makes it harder for other companies to compete.

- Monopoly Abuse:
A dominant company using its size to make it harder for other companies to compete. This includes making it harder for competitors to get customers, supplies, or labor. This can also include a situation where, if you want to buy a product from a company, the company makes you buy another product along with the desired product.
This Antitrust Report Form is for individuals and businesses in Minnesota who want to report anticompetitive activity that may violate the antitrust laws. The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office cannot respond to all reports the Office receives but will use reports to identify potential antitrust violations and monitor emerging problems in the marketplace.
The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office cannot provide you with legal advice. If you need legal advice regarding your rights under antitrust law, you may wish to contact a private attorney. If you are looking for legal representation, a list of resources is available here.
